NOTE: The maps are higher resolution in the GPS than what you see in Mapsource. On older GPSs, like the Vista, they may draw a bit slowly. On newer units, like the 60CSX, they redraw nicely. More detail has more stuff to draw. I have been working on these maps since 2003 and each is hand drawn using multiple satellite images and later tuned as I travel the areas. Usually I add new areas as I plan to paddle them. Tampa Bay is now finished (mid 2011). Generally, only enough roads were added to get to a location or for reference, especially if it's a bridge over a waterway. This map set has a lower priority than the Garmin sets so you will need to hide the Garmin maps in the GPS menus to see these maps. Zoom in to the Tampa Bay area to see the map detail. Every time that you update the maps in your GPS all existing maps except the built-in base map will be deleted. If you have a system with memory cards that show up as a drive letter you can save this map to a empty card's drive letter (or overwrite exiting map data on the card). Do not overwrite pre-load map cards. Garmin appears to be dropping their support for MapSource. Some of the newer GPSs won't even show up on MapSource's list when you attempt to send data to them. Garmin's replacement is MapInstall and BaseCamp. These maps work with Mapsource and BaseCamp. MapInstall allows you to select the various map tiles from different map sets and send them to a file or GPS. It's cruder than MapSource and has a smaller, fixed window size. Given a choice I'll continue to use Mapsource. BaseCamp is a route, track and waypoint manager. It looks pretty good, except that you can't select map tiles to send to the GPS. For an auto GPS with all of it's maps already loaded this makes sense. It doesn't make as much sense for hand held units with multiple maps or limited memory. If you update your Florida parks map from a previous version and don't see the changes in MapSource it's likely because of MapSource's caching. The display would eventually clear itself, but to speed that up do this: To clear the cache in MapSource try pressing CTRL-G TWICE. If that doesn't work search for the folder named 'TileCache'. It will have a bunch of files in it named something like this: '000000ff 1a 3 1390ad0c 138fe90d c537b1ea c536d3c9 ffffbc40 198d d 0.tile' Close MapSource, delete the tile files and restart MapSource. I have decided to combine my maps into one set to reduce the number of registry changes that are needed. A nice side effict of this change is that adding additional maps to this set requite no additional registry changes, just copy the new files over the old ones. While this set contains many maps, each map is individually selectable so you only need to load the data that you want. The water levels in the preserves may change by many feet, especially suring a strong wind. Standard Disclaimer... You and you alone are fully responsible for any changes made to your computer and/or GPS as a result of installing or using this software and/or map set.
